I was kayaking and photographing nature at Lake Lucas in North Carolina and managed to snap off a few frames of this Pileated woodpecker as it flew over the water. Spring is an excellent time of year for birding and bird photography at and on the lake during spring migration. The lake is mainly used by fisherman year round and for weekend fun for others during the spring and summer but is a hidden gem for wildlife lovers and wildlife photography.
